Damascus, Syria
Damascus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and sat on the great King's Highway. It appears whenever the northern kingdoms of Syria pushed against Israel. Most famously, Saul was stopped on the Damascus road by a vision of Jesus (Acts 9), a turning point that changed the course of the gospel.
Damascus is about 130 miles northeast of Jerusalem, a journey of several days on foot or by donkey.
